Kapsikam is a locally applied analgesic and warmth-producing ointment for joint and muscle pain.
Uses and active ingredients
What Capsicam contains. – Active substances are dimethyl sulfoxide, camphor, turpentine oil, benzyl nicotinate, nonivamide. 1 g of ointment contains 50 mg dimethyl sulfoxide, 30 mg camphor, 30 mg turpentine oil, 20 mg benzyl nicotinate, 2 mg nonivamide. – Other ingredients are emulsifying cetostearyl alcohol (type A), sodium cetostearyl sulfate, bronopol, polysorbate 80, distilled water.
Method of Administration
For external use only and Adults
As warmth-producing product for sportsmen, use the applicator to spread 2 to 3 g of ointment on the muscular area and rub it into the skin with massaging movements until the skin is lightly red. After training the ointment should be washed off the skin with cool water.
For pain relief, use the applicator to spread 1 to 3 g of ointment 2 to 3 times a day on the distressed area, depending of the intensity of the pain, and cover it with a bandage to increase the thermal effect. After every application wash your hand with cool water and soap.
Approximately 50 to 100 g of ointment is required for a course of treatment. Do not refrigerate or freeze.
Not recommended for children and adolescents due to lack of sufficient data on the use in this age group.
Do not apply ointment to damaged skin. In order to prevent severe irritation, avoid getting the ointment in your eyes or on mucous membranes. Exposure to heat (sauna, bathing, etc.) immediately before or after applying ointment is not advisable, as it can cause burning or itching due to opening of skin pores. To prevent side effects you should test your sensitivity to the medicine beforehand with small amount of the ointment.
Storage. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Do not store at a temperature higher than 25°C/77°F. Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date which is stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Warnings
Do not use Kapsikam if you are allergic to dimethyl sulfoxide, camphor, turpentine oil, benzyl nicotinate, nonivamide or any other ingredients of this medicine; if you have ulcers and skin diseases. The ointment can cause severe irritation if it is applied on the skin in excessive quantities. In such case it is recommended to wash the ointment off the skin. If a child has accidentally swallowed the ointment, refer immediately to the doctor, who will prescribe the treatment needed. Do not try to induce vomiting.
Possible side effects: • itching (pruritus) • hypersensitivity reactions • burning sensation on the skin • urticaria (“nettle rash” – short-lived hives of varied size) • swelling (oedema) • reddening of the skin (erythema).
In this case it is recommended to stop using the ointment and wash it off the skin. The listed symptoms will disappear in 8 to 12 hours after discontinuing the usage of the ointment.
Kapsikam contains cetostearyl alcohol (type A) and bronopol. Cetostearyl alcohol (type A) and bronopol may cause local skin reactions (including contact dermatitis).
