Almagel A is a product that reduces excess stomach acid. A balanced gel of aluminum and magnesium hydroxides are insoluble, almost not absorbed in the gut and the amounts received in the body are minimal. Acts locally in the gastric mucosa to protect against irritation of the gastric hydrochloric acid and other harmful substances from food and reduces the activity of pepsin. And increased product reduces acidity in the esophagus. There is a known anti-inflammatory effect and cytoprotective effect on the mucous membrane of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. Incorporation in sorbitol has little carminative and cholagogue action moderate and mild laxative effect.

Indications: Symptomatic antacid treatment of conditions associated with increased acidity in diseases of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum : esophagitis , hiatusova hernia , GERD ( gastroesophageal reflux disease ) , acute and chronic gastritis and gastroduodenitis , peptic ulcer disease , gastric and duodenal ulcers , gastritis , after surgery of the stomach and gastroanastomozit ; Prevention of gastric and duodenal disorders / reduce irritation and ulcerative action related medications.

Do not use Almagel A if you: Are allergic ( hypersensitive ) to the active substances or to any of the ingredients of Almagel A. Not recommended f when you have: severe constipation, abdominal pain of unknown origin and suspected acute appendicitis, ulcerative colitis, diverticulosis, colostomy or ileostomy (increased risk of fluid and electrolyte imbalance), chronic diarrhea, acute hemorrhoids; changes in acid-base balance of the body, and in particular metabolic alkalosis; hepatic cirrhosis; severe congestive heart failure; toxemia of pregnancy; renal impairment, because of risk of higher levels of magnesium in the blood and aluminum intoxication. Since aluminum is accumulated in the nerve tissue, the use of aluminum – containing antacids to be extremely limited in elderly patients and in those with Alzheimer’s disease. During prolonged use (over 14 days) is needed regular medical supervision and monitoring blood levels of magnesium in patients with renal impairment. The product is used undiluted. No special restrictions on the intake of food and beverages during treatment with this product.

Ingredients. 5 ml of oral solution contains 340 mg of Aluminium Hydroxide, 109 mg of Magnesium Hydroxide and 109 mg of Benzocaine. Other materials consist of Sorbitol, Ethanol, Methyl Parahydroxybenzoate, Propyl Parahydroxybenzoate and Butyl Parahydroxybenzoate.

HOW TO USE Almagel A

Adults and children over 14 years : 5-15 ml (1-3 scoops ) 3-4 times daily.
The product is administered 30 minutes before eating and before bedtime. It is recommended to limit your fluid intake in the first 15 minutes after taking the drug.

DO NOT USE FOR MORE THAN 12 DAYS UNLESS DIRECTED BY PHYSICIAN.

Storage. Do not store at a temperature higher than 25 ºC / 77 °F. Do not freeze! Store in the original package in order to protect from moisture. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date which is stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Possible side effects and warnings

Almagel can cause constipation, which is alleviated by reducing the dose. In rare cases it can cause nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, change in taste, allergic reactions and hypermagnesemia (increased blood levels of magnesium ). In patients with renal failure and those on hemodialysis, with prolonged use, the drug can cause changes in mood or mental activity. Long-term administration at high doses, accompanied by a phosphate deficiency in the diet may cause osteomalacia (softening of the bones), therefore decreasing the phosphate content in the blood.
